There are three main types of sub-flooring installed to cover and span the floor structure. It is over this that the finished floor will be placed. The sub-flooring types include raw sheathing, interlocking and strip. It is utilized not only to provide a surface for the interior finishes to be placed on, but also to prevent twisting or torque forces placed on the building. The sub-floor also allows load sharing within the joist framing system. Often the sub-flooring is glued to the joist work to eliminate creaking floors and to prevent the floor joists from turning.
Fifth, compare overall thickness and the height from the top of the tongue or nail groove to the top of the face on the floor. On an engineered floor this is generally the thickness of a wear layer. Most solid wood floors are 3/4" overall before sanding (but some are less) with 1/4" above the nail groove. Our engineered floor is manufactured to equivalent measurements but most engineered floors have a thinner wear layer. This comes down to how many times the floor can be sanded. What kind of finish and texture you want on the floor factors into how deep you will re-sand the floor during refinishing. A number of our reclaimed wood floors are sold with an original texture that shows the old saw marks and character in the floor, so most likely you won`t want to sand this out. As a rule of thumb, the thicker the wear layer then the longer the floor will last.
You can choose furniture coasters from a vast array of styles at most any hardware, home improvement or house ware shop. Styles and techniques range from special materials that are circular, oval, and rectangular or square which peel and stick to smooth surfaces with special materials attached to metal frames which can be used in your wooden floor surface`s care by hammering them into the legs` bottoms of furniture. An alternative would be to make furniture coasters for your hardwood floors and wooden floors` care. Coasters can also be used to protect the tops of wood furniture against circles which form from glasses or cups containing liquids.
Traditional floor tiles can be difficult to replace as well. If one tile is damaged, in most cases all the tiles around it have to be replaced in the repair process. This is a costly and time consuming procedure. If one of the interlocking floor tiles is damaged, it is easy to pull the damaged tile up and replace it quickly. The repair time on broken interlocking tiles would take seconds, as opposed to the hours it would take to replace traditional tiles.
